Law and engineering have more in common than you might think: facts, evidence, failure, systems thinking, and the consequences of decisions. I like to build things, but I also like to consider the impact on the people that inhabit our engineered world.
I've seen some of that overlap in mock trial, where I've argued cases involving plane crashes and wrongful deaths. The cases required me to understand what happened, why it happened, and how the technical details affected the people involved. My time in federal court has shown me another side of it, where the facts of a case have very real consequences for the people standing in the courtroom.
Shadowed a federal magistrate judge during live court proceedings and reviewed case files, legal briefs, and court orders. The experience gave me a close view of how federal cases move through the court and how judges apply rules and evidence to specific disputes.
Selected from a national and international applicant pool for an intensive week of trial advocacy, evidentiary rules, and witness examination, culminating in live arguments at a federal courthouse in Greenville, SC. Received the Key Witness Award.
Chosen for Rhodes' weeklong Mock Trial Academy, where I trained in criminal law, trial strategy, witness preparation, and courtroom delivery with Rhodes faculty, alumni, and mock trial team members. Competed on the winning team and was named MVP.
